• Another academic year has begun at Brandon University. Orientation for new students is taking place today, with classes beginning on Wednesday. Orientation will be the start of a two-week series of welcoming events, leading into the BU 125 Homecoming, from Sept. 12-15. Highlights of Homecoming will include the BU 125 birthday celebration, the Blue & Gold Social, a free talk on rural health care by physician and CBC host Brian Goldman, research presentations and the Homecoming Dinner and Awards. • “A Warrior’s Red Road,” a BU photo-voice project focused on Indigenous men connecting to their culture will go on exhibition in Winnipeg this week after a successful launch in Brandon last year. The show will be on exhibition at the Graffiti Gallery in Winnipeg beginning on Thursday and continuing until Oct. 25. An opening reception will take place on Thursday from 7 until 10 p.m. at the Graffiti Gallery.

• The Bobcats soccer teams kick off their Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference this weekend by hosting Providence University College on Saturday. The men’s match begins at 1 p.m., at the Healthy Living Centre, followed by the women’s contest at 3:15 p.m. The Bobcats will visit Saint-Boniface on Sunday.

The Hartney Home Economics Club held its annual achievement night recently with 28 girls taking part.

The Brandon Rock and Gem Club will be the new name of the Gem-Dandy Rock club, it was announced at a recent meeting.

The annual invasion of Brandon will begin June 29 when the 82nd Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba opens. About 87,000 people saw last year’s show.
