BOISSEVAIN — Results from the 89th annual Boissevain 4-H Zone Rally were released this month thanks to organizer Coral Meggison.
The event held at the Boissevain Ag Grounds included a parade, musical horseback rides and equine competitions that showcased the skills children learned in the region’s 4-H clubs. The rally judges announced winners of the senior member excellence awards for the year.
In the parade float competition, Boissevain Beef won $50 for first place, Boissevain Home & Hobby claimed second and $25. The same prizes were given for all first and second places during the parade, with Deloraine Community 4-Hers Club winning first place in the marching category and Goodlands 4-H Variety club winning second. In the equine category, Boissevain Boots n’ Bits won first and Southwest Saddles and Spurs came second.

The Boissevain Boots N’ Bits 4-H club was part of a parade through Boissevain during the 4-H Zone Rally held at the ag grounds in town. The first place in the musical ride, where club members rode on horseback and choreographed themselves with country music, was given to Boissevain Boots n’ Bits.
First place for the treasurer record book competition was given to Teagan Maddess of the Deloraine Community 4-Hers. Gary Nowazek of the Boissevain Home & Hobby Club won first place for the competition of Best Secretary Minutes Record Book.
The Boissevain Zone 2025 Senior Member Award of Excellence was given to Dylan Radcliffe and Holden Ricard. Radcliffe is with the Goodlands 4-H Variety Club and Ricard with the Boissevain Boots n’ Bits.
Radcliffe has been in 4-H for 10 years and held several positions, including vice-president and treasurer. Public speaking was the most valuable skill she learned in 4-H, which she took to leadership and teamwork positions such as student government at school and team sports.
Ricard spent two years in 4-H, however he said he wishes he’d started sooner. He led the recital of the 4-H pledge at the Boissevain Rally this month, and helped choreograph the winning team’s musical ride. He volunteers with the farmer’s market and runs a business.

The 4-H club pledge: “I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world.”
The clubs involved this month were Boissevain Beef, the Archie Light Horse and Pony Club, Boissevain Boots ’n Bits, Boissevain Home and Hobby, Deloraine Community 4-Hers, Goodlands Variety and Southwest Saddles and Spurs. Killarney Beef Club couldn’t attend.

A group of 4-H members from around the southwest gathered in Boissevain this month for the Boissevain 4-H Zone Rally. A total of 76 kids turned up for the event. The activities included horse riding shows, practise showing cattle for show and sales and a parade through town. The club members gathered at the Boissevain Ag Grounds for a photo in between competitions. In the audience, several people told the Sun they are grandparents of kids in clubs. A cattle producer in his 70s said he had once been a member of 4-H as well, and now comes to show support for his grandkids.

Kids in the Boissevain 4-H Beef Club practised show and sale technique at the Boissevain Ag Grounds this month during the Boissevain 4-H Zone Rally. Parents guided the children through steps such as soaking the cattle with hoses and washing their fur with soap, blow drying the animal and leading it to a practice pen. Seen in the photo is a member of the Boissevain 4-H Beef Club practising to lead his cow around the outskirts of the pen, a technique that is used to give potential buyers a good look at show and sale events.
