The Oak River Dodgers started strong and ended strong as they overcame a four-run deficit to beat the host Brandon Cardinals 10-8 during South West Baseball League action on Sunday afternoon at Andrews Field.

The Dodgers raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but in what proved to be a wild afternoon at the ballpark, the Cardinals were up 7-3 after three complete innings.

After both teams scored once in the fourth inning, the Dodgers posted three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings as the bats of the Cardinals went cold.

Riley Shamray earned the victory in relief of Dylan Schrader and Ty Paddock, allowing just one hit in 3 2/3 innings of work, while striking out five. Anthony Friesen came in for the final batter for the save.

Jeff Wiebe took the loss, allowing four runs in two innings of work with a pair of strikeouts in relief of Brody Pinkerton. Dreyson Potter also threw a scoreless inning for the Cards.

At the plate, Dunc Paddock drove in four runs for the Dodgers with a single and a double. Shamray went 3-for-4 and scored three runs, and Ty Paddock also crossed the plate three times.

Brady Nault drove in three runs for the Cardinals, while Jeff Neufeld and Brady Potter both had a pair of hits and scored runs.

The Cardinals rebounded in the late game to beat the visiting Reston Rockets 9-8.

Winning pitcher Jeff Wiebe earned the win with 2/3 inning of an inning of relief. John Patmore took the loss.

JT Martine led Brandon’s attack with four singles and two RBI and Xander Eilers had three singles. Reston’s Jamie Williamson and Aiden Jasper each had three hits.

In other games around the league, the Brandon Young Guns split a pair of road games, beating the Souris Cardinals 13-4 and falling 8-2 to the Deloraine Royals.

Elsewhere, the Hamiota Red Sox topped the Virden Oilers 9-5 and the Wawanesa Brewers edged the visiting Rockets 15-14.
