Suspect arrested in break and enter

Brandon police arrested a man suspected of breaking into a gated compound on the eastern edge of the city on Sunday.

Officers responded around 3:35 a.m. to a report that a man was seen on security cameras inside a fenced-off area in the 2300 block of 49th Street, police said in a news release Sunday.

Police used a drone and the K9 unit to find the suspect hiding in a bush.

The man was in possession of tools that “would assist in the break-in,” police said.

A 33-year-old man was charged with break and enter and possession of break-in instruments.

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 15.

Windshield smashed with brick

A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly smashing a car windshield with a brick over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Sunday in the 500 block of Lorne Avenue.

Officers were called to the scene and located the suspect, who attempted to flee, police said in a news release on Monday.

The man was charged with mischief to property under $5,000 and held at the police station for court, police said.

Driver blows three times over legal limit

Police arrested a 28-year-old man for impaired driving on the weekend after he allegedly blew three times over the legal limit during a breath test.

Police stopped the vehicle on Sunday just after midnight in the 1100 block of Princess Avenue after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver.

The driver showed “obvious signs of impairment,” police said in a news release on Sunday.

The man was charged with operation while impaired and operation exceeding 80 per cent. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 15.

Man stabbed on First Nation

The RCMP is investigating after a 44-year-old man was stabbed in O-Pion-Na-Piwin Cree Nation.

The victim was airlifted to hospital in Winnipeg, where he remains in stable condition.

South Indian Lake RCMP received the report on Friday at 9 a.m., learning that the seriously injured man had been taken to the local nursing station overnight.

The initial investigation led officers to a residence on McLeod Bay on O-Pion-Na-Piwin Cree Nation, and they determined the suspect and the victim know each other. No arrest has been announced.

RCMP are asking anyone with information about the assault to contact the South Indian Lake detachment at 204-374-2029. The investigation is ongoing.

Woman accused of pulling gun on cabbie

WINNIPEG — A 45-year-old woman accused of pulling a handgun on a Winnipeg taxi driver is facing multiple firearms-related charges.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Concordia Avenue and Louelda Street.

Officers learned a woman got into a cab in the Munroe East neighbourhood and pulled out a handgun, asking the driver to take her to a specific location, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.

The taxi driver activated the taxi’s emergency beacon, exited the vehicle and contacted police.

The woman got into the driver’s seat of the taxi, but the keys had been removed, and she fled on foot.

A suspect was arrested shortly afterward in the 1000 block of Concordia Avenue. Police seized a .22-calibre handgun during the arrest.

Laney Sandra Nobiss, 45, was charged with several firearms offences and was detained in custody.
