• 60 YEARS AGO — 7-Up trampled Molsons 25-3 in Brandon and District Commercial Fastball League semifinal action. Bob Ash led the winners with five hits, collecting a home run, two singles and two doubles. Winning pitcher Billy Huston also picked up a home run and two singles.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Clanwilliam Greys won their 13th game of the Brandon Centennial Fastball League by defeating The Firebirds 5-3. Al McPherson tripled and singled for the winners and Malcolm Klym tossed a six-hitter to gain the decision on the mound.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Souris Blues successfully defended their Brandon and District Fastball League championship, downing Roscoe’s Ladies of Boissevain 7-4 to clinch the A Division title. Brenda Hiebert paced the winners offensively with a triple and single. Bev Neufeld, Lynn Morrison and Kim Payette all rapped singles.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Wil Lamont hit a two-run inside-the-park homer to lead the 34th Street Bar & Grill Expos to an 8-3 triumph over the Midgets in Brandon Intermediate Baseball League playoff action at Westbran Stadium.
• 20 YEARS AGO — A pair of Brandon’s top triathletes are Ironmen. Paul Francis and John Blyth, both Brandonites and members of the Westman Triumphs triathlon club, finished Ironman Canada.
