• 60 YEARS AGO — Eleven-year-old Jim McDonald of Brandon fired a 45 at Clear Lake to take a one-stroke lead in the annual cub golf tournament.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Greg Steeves, the lone Brandonite in the Canadian Junior Men’s championship at Manotick, Ont., fired a 43-40—83 after an opening round 74. His 157 total was good enough to make the cut.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Chris Ferguson and Ard Biesheuvel potted two goals each as Brandon Club United cruised to an 8-0 thumping of Adman Kicks in Brandon Senior Soccer League action. Murray Melnyk recorded the shutout.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Junior Brake tossed a four-hitter over nine innings to spark the Boissevain Centennials to a 7-2 win over the Souris Cardinals in South West Baseball League playoff action. Brake struck out 13 as Boissevain took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five league final.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Chris Dobson gave Arsenal a chance to knock off the Brandon Senior Men’s Soccer League champions. Dobson slotted a pair of goals to help Arsenal beat Remington’s Hotspur 3-1 in the championship semifinals of the Brandon year-end soccer tournament at Canada Games Park.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Neepawa’s Halli Krzyzaniak picked up an assist as the Canadian women’s development team edged the United States 4-3 in the second of their three-game set in Calgary.
