• 60 YEARS AGO — Tip Top Tailors captured the Ernie Russell trophy emblematic of senior men’s 10-pin bowling league supremacy at the Thunderbird Bowl. Members of the winning team were Don Gardner, Bill Matt, Ernie Russell, Bill Bell, Jim Sutherland and George Gardner.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Leigh Clermont of Crocus Plains and Ellard Schappert of Neelin captured the girls and boys city high school singles championships, respectively.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Club champions at the Riverview Men’s Curling Club awards nights were Keith Poole, Bud Blair, Bill Shelvey, Mylo Cale and Cyril Fox. Runners-up were Dave Murray, Ken Winter, Craig Dunn and Terry Lumsden.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Jenna Kerbis won three disciplines Friday en route to the National Open women’s all-around title at the Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships at the University of Manitoba. Kerbis, a 17-year-old member of the Brandon Eagles, topped the vault with 9.100, the beam with a 9.350 and the floor exercises with 9.600 as she posted an all-around total of 35.850.
