A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Swan River RCMP say he robbed and assaulted a man with a firearm.
The incident was reported on Monday around 4 p.m. by a 21-year-old man who told Mounties he had been assaulted on Aug. 5, RCMP said in a news release on Thursday.
The victim told police he went for a drive with a man who was known to him and was assaulted, robbed, threatened with a gun and left stranded on a back road outside of Bowsman.
The victim gave a description of the suspect and his vehicle to police.
Mounties started looking for the suspect and found a vehicle in Swan River matching the description. They pulled the driver over and arrested him without incident.
Police issued a search warrant on the suspect’s home. Officers found BB guns, along with a firearm that matched the description of the one allegedly used in the robbery, police said.
The man was remanded into custody and faces eight charges, including robbery with a firearm, assault, uttering threats, assault with a weapon and unsafe storage of firearms.
RCMP continue to investigate.
