Some facts about the 25 teddy-bear toss games held so far:
• ATTENDANCE — The crowds have ranged from a low of 2,902 in the first year of the event in 1996, to a high of 5,201 in 2002 when Ryan Craig netted the goal in a 3-1 loss to the Red Deer Rebels. Last season’s attendance was a season high of 4,774.
• HOLD THAT DATE — The games have all been scheduled been Dec. 2 and Dec. 17, but never before on Dec. 10
• NEW OPPONENT — It will be the first time Brandon has met a U.S. Division opponent in the special game, although they’ve met the Kelowna Rockets of the B.C. Division three times and the Vancouver Giants once.
• WINS AND LOSSES — The Wheat Kings have a record of 18-5-1-1 on teddy-bear nights, and are riding a seven-game winning streak. Six games have gone to extra time, with Brandon going 3-1 in overtime and 1-1 in the shootout.
• WELCOME BACK — Brandon has met the Saskatoon Blades the most, winning all four games.
• QUICK WORK — Fourteen of the 25 teddy-bear goals have been scored in the first 10 minutes, with five coming in the first two minutes. Four players scored the big goal in the second period: Brandon fans have never been made to wait until the third period. The latest goal so far came when Alex Argyriou sniped 9:14 into the second period in a 3-1 loss to the Kootenay Ice on Dec. 11, 1998.
• DOUBLE TROUBLE — Ryan Craig (2000 and 2002) and Teegan Moore (2005 and 2006) are the only Wheat Kings to score more than one teddy-bear toss goal.
• HOMETOWN BOYS — Four Brandonites have scored the goal, Duncan Campbell (2014), Tyler Coulter (2015), Connor Gutenberg (2018) and Shayne Wiebe (2010).
