Max Brook hammered home nine kills with just one error as the Brandon University Bobcats crushed the host Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) to close the first semester of Canada West men’s volleyball action at the Duckworth Centre on Saturday.

Both teams concluded the first half of the season 6-6.

Rylan Metcalf added four kills, three aces, three blocks and three digs as Brandon posted 26 kills and eight errors for a .243 hitting percentage.

BU’s defence was the key, holding Winnipeg to 21 kills and forcing 28 errors, nine by way of Bobcat blocks. That’s a -.070 hitting percentage.

In the women’s match, Emma Parker was the only one in double-digits with 10 kills as the Wesmen (8-4) swept the Bobcats 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-22).

Marly Pellerin was BU’s most efficient attacker with three kills, error-free on six attempts. The Bobcats (0-12) hit .019 while the Wesmen hit .143.

BU returns to action on Jan. 6 against the UBC Okanagan Heat in Kelowna, B.C. Its next home matches are on Jan. 20-21 against Calgary.
